Installing on Ubuntu Linux
« on: April 28, 2019, 10:44:16 am »
I last installed QB64 on a Ubuntu system back in early 2016.

Today, I wanted to upgrade to the latest 1.3 package, and got hugely tangled up.

Has the basic logic of it all changed?  From memory, I unpack the tarball into a folder, and then run the setup file.

Today, that doesn't seem to be working.

Any helpful tips most welcome.

I installed the 1.3 version without any obstacles. And the fact that it does not compile does not concern this topic. Open the program folder. Then right click "open in terminal" in the new window enter: ./setup_lnx.sh

I've got to the bottom of this.

The supplied run_qb64 shell script doesn't run when copied to the desktop.  It does run from the installed folder.

With version 1.00 (which was what I had on the machine previously), the shell script did run from the desktop.

I made a link, and am using that instead.

Once you run ./setup_lnx.sh in the terminal, it creates a qb64 item, in the Development group of the main menu in whatever Desktop environment you are using. You do not need to use run_lnx.sh. I know this because I've been using the linux qb64 for years, hardly ever touch the windows version.
