Something up with .ORG main page?
« on: July 18, 2019, 11:02:25 am »
trying to get to the wiki from qb64.org main page and can't, doesn't seem to be loading correctly either. none of the links at the top are working everything seems shifted to the right to the point I have to scroll right to see parts. Anybody else having issues or am I special?
Granted after becoming radioactive I only have a half-life!

I’ve been having issues on and off with the main page for a while now.  Some days it doesn’t load anything but the background image.  Other days, none of the buttons work as you describe.  Sometimes it seems to start a java script and then freeze.  Internal links, like the forums and wiki, seem to work fine, if you access them directly, but the main page itself is completely hit-and-miss for me.

First of all, the main page is loading incredibly slowly (with a 4G mobile connection), so I'm loading QB64.ORG/forum/ directly, which is much faster. IF use qb64.org/forum/, i have none problems.

It works for me, but the main page is always very slow to both begin to load and complete. I know QB64 is supposed to remind us of the good ol' QBasic days, but that doesn't mean the QB64 website should remind us of the good ol' AOL days. It's probably something to do with the way the background and effects are loaded. Maybe the site is on some kind of a shared server service, which slows it down, too. I know, there are a lot of Wiki pages for the site.

I had a chance to view the V-1.3 video someone made. That's first rate, very well done. If it wasn't too much of a hassle to figure out how to get a faster response from the page loading, that would be great. As far as the couple of glitches the site has apparently had recently, they are either over fast enough that by the time another visitor here reads the post, and tries the site out, the problem has been elevated, or it's some local browser error that the browser management system clears up, especially if you clear cookies.

On the bright, at least it isn't a page that tells you the site doesn't exist, would you like to create it!

For me from this forum link: slow load, features off center to right and none of the menu items work.

Well, it could be worse, like off to the Left. I'll take center right, any day!

No problems here, portal loads within 4 seconds (4G mobile network) and looks well layouted. All links are working as expected (Firefox v67.x on Windows 7).

Good idea to include the browser and OS. I' m using Windows 10 and Firefox, but I'm not getting the same experience as Rho, and I don't think it has to do with the OS. Now mine initially loads in 4-secodes, too, which Id say is very slow, but it takes an additional 3 seconds for the page to compete loading, which means that it takes 7-seconds for the links to be displayed.

On Safari, on the iPad, it either loads correctly in half a second, or it goes completely glitchy in various ways.  Refreshing doesn’t help, clearing cache doesn’t help, rebooting doesn’t help, but after a moderate timeframe (an afternoon nap, for example), it all works correctly again...

...until it just doesn’t anymore...

Hi Mark,

Yes on the three dots, but in Firefox, they appear on the right, not the left. The dots are anchors (links to scroll to various sections of that page.)

going on https://www.portal.qb64.org/

from Opera I get the same experience waiting www.patreon.com.... appears for just little time in the bottom corner of the webpage and than the page lasts without images on the 3 links.
Moreover I confirm that using Edge it works fine
in Internet explorer I get a fine webpage but it shows 3 white little circle at the right as link to jump to the three section of the page.
And at the end the same I get in Chrome.
