GALAXY Generator / Simulator
« on: September 15, 2019, 10:47:22 pm »
I've attempted to make my generated galaxies look more realistic.  While they don't look a lot like the pictures of real galaxies I've seen, I think they're much closer to it than they were before.  See the attached sample galaxies.

Please read the included help file for info on controls.  I've included also a font file used by the program.
* Galaxy_2019_10_20.zip (Filesize: 100.13 KB, Downloads: 160)
_SAMPLE_Galaxy_2019-10-20_01.gif

This is incredible!!! Awesome detail! Great job!

But next time just use the original forum thread and reply to it and it will bring it up to the first post so people can see it. Just editing it won't do that. Also, they told me awhile back to just keep the old version on the forum and post the new one below the old one on a new post of the same thread. That is so people can learn and see the differences if they want to. If you want anyway.

Amazing math skills you got there.

Thanks for such high praise!  Just don't compare my galaxies too closely with photos of real ones;  mine are still much too neat and orderly.  Funny, I started referring to my less-tidy galaxies as messier galaxies, and then I confirmed that a French fella named Messier is, in fact, the discoverer of many galaxies.  I guess the M in M-31 (Andromeda) is for Messier.

True, I still don't seem to have got the hang of posting properly in the forum, but I'll try to remember that next time.

Math skills?  When did I acquire math skills?  Took me a couple of decades to figure out how to use SIN/COS() in a program.  I'd love to make use of the Z axis and do some proper 3D, but that seems very unlikely.  But I guess I can make 2D things go in circles or spirals pretty well.

Here there are the 110 Messier objects this astronomer is famous for:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Messier_object

40 of them are Galaxies indeed.

I didn't know how many were galaxies, but I knew there were 110 objects.  It's funny, if it's true, that Mr. Messier was really searching for comets, and all these other things just kept getting in his way.  I like that.
Thanks for the link!
