Great!  That's the sort of publicity we need.

Good article, but mixed comments.  Yes basic is an old language.  If the cat gets skinned who cares how it was done.  Don't get me wrong I love CATS, it's all in how you do the sauce that matters.

Yeah Bill Gates obviously doesn't know what he's commenting on!

All the yammer about Java seems off topic to me.

Hey maybe we need an official jingle now. How about...

    Anything you can do
    Q can do better
    Q can do BASIC things
    Better than you

I was cool to do bit stufff for assembler, hardware interrupts, com files with old Basics.

    Neither does DRONE.

BTW, I have used FreeBasic.  I prefer to use QB64.  At least with QB64, things improve and change.  FreeBasic has become stale.  If you want something along the lines of snazzy (windows only) basic.  You can pay for Power Basic.  I can reach more platforms using QB64.  I will stick with my preferred choice.

We just about have PowerBASIC for Windows here now, with all the neat API stuff @Dav and @SpriggsySpriggs have posted.
