QB64 Status?
« on: January 22, 2021, 03:58:23 am »
I've been away for a couple of years and just found out that [abandoned, outdated and now likely malicious qb64 dot net website - don’t go there] and forums are "dead".
And no status that I could see posted anywhere.

Is this the new website and forum to use?

Maybe you're tired of the question, but what happened??

[abandoned, outdated and now likely malicious qb64 dot net website - don’t go there] was abducted by aliens. We have Men in Black, trying to retrieve it, as we speak. In the meantime, I finally convinced the guys here to make this site the permanent QB64 forum home. BTW - The original QB64 site was a sub-forum at the Network54 QBasic site. Network54 sold that out to Tapatalk a year ago. The site is still up, but it's hosted by Tapatalk and has a new URL: https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/qbasic/qbasic-f1/ and https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/qbasic/qb64-project-f585676/

Now for the real story. Galleon (Rob) made the decision a couple of years back to no longer keep the QB64 site up and running, but it was taken over by some other source and remains on the internet as a dysfunctional site with mostly all broken links. It would be best if you do not try and login, as it may be being used to retrieve personal data. Rob is not currently working on QB64, but a few others here are. Rob has recently returned to this forum, but shows up only occasionally.

Thanks. Now that you've said that, my memory kind of kicked back in and I semi-remember what happened.

Was the old forum archived anywhere?

If not, that is a pretty big loss. (you can't even click on most posts to read them -- I might be able to get around that -- maybe)

If it wasn't archived, and can be, it should be. There is a lot of good stuff there.

This link gets you some stuff, but unfortunately the post links still don't work.

What a waste and loss.

@coder

Just for your information - I experimented trying to "manually" reload stuff from the old .net site onto the forum. Refer to the link below

https://www.qb64.org/forum/index.php?topic=2671.0

a lot could be said - my "experiences" archiving the old .net site in the first place might span up to 100 replies (probably could make a "soap opera" TV style series out of it - all the events that took place)

Galleon has a full backup, but said he feels "time has moved on and I don't see any point in releasing it now".

Welcome back, @coder.
