I had a bad day
My code took last place
I tried out Ron's game
And it blew up in my face

The fire truck came
But the house burned to the ground
My backup drive flamed
And the Internet was down

I had a bad day...

Pete :(

Now I can't get that tune by Daniel Powter (what's in a name?) out of my head. Oh well, serves me right.

PS This reminds me of the glass half full or half empty question. I think an engineer answered that one best. The glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

Interesting start to a QB64 diary?

Before you start counting good and bad days, you might consider what constitutes a good or a bad day. In those beliefs I think you find the optimist or pessimist.

I had such a terrible dang day today.  Won the $640,000,000 lottery.  Now I’m going to have to pay $300,000,000 in taxes. All my idiot relatives are calling me up, pretending to congratulate me, but I know they just want a hand out.  I’ll probably lose my Medicaid now.  The wife wants a new car; I just know we’ll get cheated and overspend on a lemon...

Suckiest day in a long time!

Instead of just asking the user to rate their day, make a list of “happy/positive” words, and “depressed/negative” words, and use them to decide the outlook of a day.  ;)

So sorry to hear Steve, say let me help you out by taking that $640,000,000 of misery off your hands. Sunrose can have 2 cars :D

Counting P's would be what Martin Seligman would advise. Author of "Learned Optimism" and the branch of Psychology that is call Positive Psychology.

You have a bad event and how you attribute the cause is distinguishing between Optimism and Pessimism.
The more it is:
Personal, Pervasive and Permanent the more you are a Pessimist and just the opposite goes for attributions to Happy events, the more the happy event is believed to be Personal, Pervasive and Permanent the more Optimistic you are,

To an optimist all bad events are flukes, will never happen again and certainly not MY fault (kinda sounds like Trump) and all good events are normal occurrences, people love Me and there is no reason they should ever stop happening.

Seligman says that Optimists make terrible realists but generally achieve more because they don't give up easily.

BTW Americans don't elect Republicans or Democrats, they elect Optimists.
