Fresh QB64 install
« on: June 10, 2020, 09:51:36 am »
I don't think this is a bug per se because I have had QB64 1.4 running on my Linux machine before....

Long story short: Fresh install of Linux Mint 64 bit. Fresh install of QB64 (qb64_1.4_lnx.tar.gz).

Ran the 'setup_lnx.sh' without error. Started QB64 without error... Only problem is that the "Keyword Index" is empty.

I have executed QB64 both ways, just in case... './qb64' and './run_qb64.sh'  Both times QB64 executed without error but still no 'keyword index'.

I have checked the 'internal/help' directory and all the help files are in there... (I'm assuming that is where QB64 'reads' the files...)

Am I doing something wrong or has QB64 developed a "random feature"?

Same here on Windows 10, I just proceed to click Help tab and then click Alphabetical Keyword Index that comes up and all is well, as BSpinoza said.

Does that work for you johnno?

That works... Cool... But that does not explain why clicking on Help then Index does not work...

I can live with this little work-a-round... No big deal...

I',m still not convinced it's a bug... Because I am installing the exact same version of QB64 on my new OS install. Logic dictates that, if QB64 has not been updated within the last two weeks; The same version of QB64 worked without error on my previous version of Linux Mint; The same version of QB64 has a problem with the 'keyword index' and the 'keyword index' is included in the installation, then the most likely source of not accessing the 'keyword index', may lie within the new OS install.

So as to eliminate the obvious flaw in this logic... Has QB64 been updated within the last two week?

Hmm... Logic dictates, does it not, if BSpinoza (both on Linux and Windows 10) and I (on Windows) notice same gnat as you, Johnno, that it's been around allot longer than 2 weeks and certainly not attributable to your new Linux.

It has been month(s) since my update to QB64 v1.4 and that may be where the gnat resides. Maybe you never noticed this before all the new stuff?

Two weeks ago the 'keyword index' was displayed each time I selected 'Help then i'...  But, you maybe correct, with multiple happenings supporting your theory. I will continue with the work-a-round and hope that maybe it will be corrected in the next iteration... 'Your' logic, as it seems, is flawless as usual. Good pickup... ;)

Ok. "Riddle me this one, Batman..."

The 'Keyword Index' is back. The only change I made to QB64 was the IDE colour scheme from 'default' to 'Dark Blue'... My brain hurts...

Hmm, interesting find.

I only ever use Dark Blue and that could be the reason something I missed wrong with the help system.

Thanks y'all for digging into the issue. I'll try to reproduce it locally and see if I can find the root of it.

I have no idea what the root of the issue could be. After bplus's latest screenshot I know even less.

Does going to Help->Update this page have any effect?

Well... Just to "throw the cat among the pigeons"... 'Keyword Index' is gone again... I have initiated the reload of the help files... but I have my doubts... I will know in about 10 minutes... Just enough time for a quick coffee...

Update:

Re-installed the help files and the keyword index appeared... Just to make sure, I terminated QB64 and re-started, and they were gone again.... I think I need stronger coffee...
