Still Learning
« on: May 28, 2018, 06:21:23 pm »
Introduction:

I'm here to learn and this site was pointed out to me by "bplus".

I have been dabbling in "Basic" now since 1983 and I am yet to master any of it... lol  I am currently living in Melbourne, Australia with my family. My family originally migrated to Australia, from England, in April of 1853 and we have been infesting this place ever since... lol

The type of basic I am used to was 'spaghetti' basic... line numbers, goto's gosub's... I have been using sdlbasic now for quite some years. Still trying to 'un-learn' old habits... lol Of course I have used QB45 a long time ago but did't 'get into it'. About 13 years ago I switch to Linux and recently found out that QB64 had a Linux version. Cool. I have 'tinkered' with QB64 for a short while and figured that, seeing I have this beastie installed, I had better get on with learning more... So here I am... Ready to learn.

Welcome Johnno!

Johnno has been my supplier of sound and graphics images on a number of projects not to mention a source of ideas and support.

He uses Linux and I Windows and whenever something works in one OS but not the other, we scratch our heads trying to figure if the OS is the problem or ... scratch, scratch...

Currently we've encountered differences with the way Battleship 5-AI is handling sound and image files, which is why I asked about it in the Battleship Thread

As a "newbie" to this site, and there does not appear to be an option to access a "user control panel", would I be correct in assuming that the function will be available after 1.) a period of time or 2.) after a set number of posts? Am I warm? lol

FellippeHeitor,

Thank you for the instructions. I have no excuse as to why I did not see the solution. Your assistance is appreciated.

1983??? Why you're just a kid. I started in 1981 so in a couple of years, you'll be a total BASIC master like me. In fact, I'm so great I can write a hello World program in ALL CAPS and that's both the code and the output! Actually, I started out learning BASIC by programming now "old" games like Battleship. Back then, people who did what I was doing had computer games before the companies that owned the rights to them did. That's OK, the Milton Bradly's of the world finally caught up.

Welcome to the .org forum,

Pete
