Campsite Manager Game - grateful for any feedback
« on: March 17, 2021, 05:40:12 pm »
Hi

A game I am writing for a game jam, can you keep the campsite clear for campers to pitch on?

I have 4 days left to submit so would be grateful if any body here has any time to try it out.

I tried running this and got errors loading every asset, including fonts. Do I have to do some casuistry with the folder that other programs don't expect me to do?

Hi @191Brian

Are all those creatures popping up and down gophers? ;-))

Everything seems to be working (even the ogg files with Windows Explorer, so nice not to have that hassle anymore).
The files are loading fine for me and I walked to store and bought chainsaw, fuel... are those cabinet doors accessible?
(I am Windows 10 64 bit laptop, running from QB64 v1.5)

I am kind of at loss of what to do, I think I need to hire Bill Murrey though.

PS 2K LOC, how old are you to write so much code in ... how long? :)
(I am betting young, younger than me anyway, way younger!)

Hi STaAxTIC
Thanks will check that, just expects to find folders that are in the zip file. Maybe you are on Linux and I have been sloppy with my names re upper case and lower case.

Hi bplus

The idea is you need to use the tools to keep the campsite clear otherwise you no one can pitch and you won't make any money. Thanks to your feedback I will make that more obvious to the player.
I am 55 years young, I started this project last Friday but as its tile based and I have already written the tile map editor and one game there was plenty of code to reuse and creating the levels is easy plus cos of covid work is slow so have lots of free time. I did have to create some new tiles and the asset graphics.
Cabinets don't open but that is an idea for the future.

Not sure what changed but I re-downloaded and clicked the EXE - it simply works now.

@191Brian

Are you supposed to do something about the moles? As ex-camper I would say they are far more off putting than the spread out trees. Who wants a campground without any trees?

Now removing moles! There is a chore! It may be mundane but the solutions could be interesting.

Spade?

Is that what they use in UK?

I was thinking dynamite? or at least an animal friendly dart gun. ;-))

More ideas

Lawnmowers and litter bags and dumpster and out house maintenance (spiders are a b!) and a tractor, they were always fool'in with something on tractor and ponds for fishing and swimming and they need life guards and algae and beer can clearing, not to mention hauling out bodies the mafia keeps dumping in ;-))

Then there is the store, camping equipment and food, sell firewood... that is a management nightmare all of it's own, specially when you add on a restaurant and entertainment center for Bingo, pool, ping pong, shuffleboard, cards, maybe some casino gaming (here come the mafia again hee, hee).
