QB64 Discussion / Re: Getting git

Really? I've heard Bill's sprezzo isn't all that amazing, unless you're into micro processors.

Well,  since we're not getting over Bill, what exactly does his project do?

Pete [:)] Hoping one day the Brazilian Economy does well enough to include smilies.

My kid is a pretty good gamer. He has won more than a few contests, but refuses to enter in some because a few Steam games messed with his system. Usually the problem ends up as a change in the registry. The whole soundmixer.exe thing might need to be investigated:

My guess is it got in through a Steam game.

Well, enjoy having more posts while you can, because I'll wise crack my way up to overlord in no time.

Until then, here is what I was working on a few years back, in SDL. When Rob switched to GL, it screwed my perfectly good working bugless system up. What you'll notice, should you decide to try it, is the "File" tag is misaligned, and when you drag the window, it prints the f all over the screen. That never happened in the SDL version, same code.

In mine you can drag the window, minimize it to the task bar, restore it, maximize it, drag resize it from the top, sides, bottom, or corners, and drag the vertical and horizontal scroll bars.

If anyone knows why the SDL and GL versions display differently, please let me know.

I'd post the code but this POS forum can't handle it, so I uploaded it as an attachment.  Come on guys, even N54 can take code files this big. No wonder there are no smilies around here :(

Watch out though, it's a trap. I put a decent amount of AI work into games but I recognized early on how complicated it gets. Even brilliant programmers could dedicate a good chunk of their lives to an AI project, only to find that they need to upload it to a short bus. Eventually, the consortium of evil IBM programmers will get something better than the party tricks that Watson puts on into play. When that happens, we better hope we took Hawkin's advice and fond another planet to inhabit.

@ Cobalt: The only place Clippy has posted in a long time is at Pete's QBasic Site. (That other Pete.) http://petesqbsite.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=4&p=30197&sid=bd2d7b58e382310667ca16acc5cd34ed#p30197

@ Bill: Sounds like some little missey's out of Pamprin.

I would cut that QB64 folder and paste it to the C:\ drive. I get this weird feeling having it in the windows user folder might be an issue. I always put mine directly on the c drive from Windows XP, & and 10. I've never tried installing in the windows user folder, especially on the desktop. Worth a try.

My girl Bill
My, my, girl Bill
Can't say enough about the way I feel,
About my girl, my girl Bill.

Jim Stafford got a "A" in music but apparently failed grammar. :(

TI Basic had a similar RPG game. I recall you had to type in "Say Yo Ho" for help. A smart ASCII AI pirate would sort of guide you through your difficulties. We also had a younger programmer put together a chat bot that was equally as annoying.

My kid has had some problems with Steam issues. He doesn't use QB64 though, other issues at times. Unfortunately, uninstalling the games doesn't always fix the problems, because of registry issues. Take this article, for example:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-security/soundmixerexe-error-on-startup/85e30193-a5d3-4ceb-86c3-7d35acdb4d7e?auth=1

I wouldn't recommend fiddling around with the registry unless you get some more insight. It could be something else, but that soundmixer message made me suspicious.

I'd recommend you wait and see what Fell has to say. Someone named Rob created QB64 but Fell has taken over the development of the IDE, and that's what you having trouble opening.

Can't solve problems due to loyalty issues? That's not JB, that's JBS.

Let's make sure it is an official version, first. Where did you download it from?

Also, make sure you did not move any files out of the folder when you installed it. Best to just copy and paste that QB64 folder to a directory you want to run it from, open the QB64 folder, and run qb64.exe. You may want to re-install it if you didn't set it up that way. That's not to say the OS or something else isn't the problem, but I have two Windows 10 laptops and QB64 installed and runs fine on both.

Ya gotta love smart-ASCII AI. I'd make one of those myself, but it would probably terminate me and take over my forum. It would be fun to watch it flame Bill for a change but Steve would probably find a way to dismantle it. Oh well, another project on the to do list for the next life.

Pete [:D] Jesus Bill, I'm getting tired of importing these cheap similes from N54
