QB64 Discussion / Input output methods and hardware opinions
« on: March 13, 2022, 11:19:26 pm »
Hi everyone.
Long time no see.

First off apologies if this is the wrong section, logged in on my phone and can't view the site as well as my laptop.

I'm just wondering if anyone has experience with connecting i/o expansion boards to a PC and using qb64 to access those?
Looking to be able to sample voltage at high speed using something like the USB daq I have into qb64. Maybe with 4 inputs or maybe slower speeds with more inputs. Something to read the voltages from things like thermocouples.
Also a breakout board for inputs from momentary circuit closures from buttons mounted on an enclosure. So possibly a gang of pins and a way to read them.
Essentially something similar to what a raspberry pi does but for a PC running qb64.

Has anyone done this or have ideas what the easiest or best way is to go about it?

QB64 Discussion / TCP/IP data limit size in buffer etc
« on: April 02, 2021, 01:37:47 am »
Hello everyone!
I have a question that I ran into before and couldn't figure out, but hoping I might find help as I understand it better somewhat.

In experimenting with get/put and transferring data, Sometimes I found that data can be lost.
The computer sending the data would send it too fast, and the receiving computer wouldn't get all the data.
So, I tried and fooled around, and found a few solutions:
I tried to simply slow data send rate to match connection speed. Seems stupid.

Then, the more elegant solution was to send data in packets and keep track of how many are received vs how many are sent to insure that 60 kilobytes
may be between the sending and receiving computer but no more. This solution works, but as multiple connections are running, there doesn't seem to be 60 kilobytes of buffer space for each connection anymore.

I have read that 64kb figure for tcp/ip connections but I'm not 100% sure how to apply what I'm reading.
Does anyone have an idea where to find this information? I've already read everything I can on qb64 literature and seaching the internet.

I'm just wondering how programs generally do this. Send data and increase rate until loss, then reduce speed?
Let it go full speed and limit data in the buffers?

How does one even know how much buffer space is available? I can read different operating systems have different size buffers for socket etc, but so would switches and other network gear, so I'm just wondering the logic behind network programs to account for network speeds to not lose data....

QB64 Discussion / Internet usage of Input, Print, get and put
« on: April 19, 2020, 08:05:49 pm »
OK So I'm tring to get Input / Print work (and I can't), so I'm reading through QB64 help index at statements for ideas what I'm doing wrong, and I come across this:

Input/ Print TCP/IP statements in QB64 help:
Availability:
 Version 0.954 and older.
For version 1.000 and up use GET/PUT TCP/IP statements

Does that mean using PRINT, INPUT isn't supported for TCP/IP fine handles in version 1.4 ?

Programs / Buttons for qb programs
« on: April 17, 2020, 01:28:57 pm »
This is code I've been adding to things for years, it works alright.
It creates buttons with 1 instruction,
then 1 instruction to render the graphics, and 1 for the mouse procedure.
I've used it for 1 or 2 buttons, and even on screen keyboard it worked before.

To make button:
CALL guiaddbutton("button1", "Buttons!!!", 50, 50, 150, 70, 0)
The button name (whatever you want) , the button text (or filename if image is used),  x,y,x,y,  then 0 or 1, 0 is text button, 1 is image.

CALL guirender
CALL handlemouse

clickname$ will now = the name of the button that was clicked.

Programs / Simple progress bar code for projects :)
« on: April 17, 2020, 12:39:16 am »

I attached a program with code for drawing progress bars, for those of us than may want such a thing, without much complication.
Updated to fix font location on bar.

QB64 Discussion / put / get buffer binary mode tcp
« on: April 15, 2020, 12:52:54 am »
Ok,
I made a program which is a transfer program for what I'm making, a peer to peer ap.
so the program so far (not 100% done) can copy files disk to disk, download from network to disk, upload from disk to network.
It has 1000 transfer command queue capacity, but the program only runs 32 at once and advances the queue as they complete.

So far, I am using binary mode, and get and put, 1 byte at a time.

I am curious; the beginning of the file I transfer sometimes is missing data in the beginning,
I made the program wait for 1 second before the data starts transferring.
Other than the beginning, it's all intact.

I am wondering though, is this data protected by tcp/ip for errors and buffering?
If the connection drops or slows down, does the sending computer pause at the put command until a value is read?
Or does it just keep sending bytes and they're lost?

QB64 Discussion / HOW do i sample (not play) audio?
« on: April 04, 2020, 11:45:44 pm »
I searched high and low.
tearing hair out.

Is there a qb64 function i'm missing?
How do you read the line input or microphone line?
