Title: Show us where the QB64 magic happens!
Post by: TerryRitchie on September 08, 2018, 06:31:58 pm
Post a pic of your rig where your QB64 goodness is cooked.

I would have put this in the off-topic area but you can't attach pictures there?

Good Lord! Taking lessons from the President I see. :D

Hi Terry,

Nice desk! My room looks just like yours except it was hit by tornado.

Actually, I have 2 retired laptops, the dinosaur and the thing that crawled out of the sea and onto the Internet way back... I forget.

Oh! Funny thing when I expanded the attached snapshot of your room, I thought I saw a flying saucer outside your window, dang! it was only a poster.

BTW I also have the holy grail mug of the coding juice on my desk, right next to the 2 quart thermos of same.

Awesome! Keep the pics coming. Fellippe, I have a perpetual mess too! I cleaned it up for my pic and when the wife saw my desk she about fainted. LOL

Now she expects me to clean the rest of the house. :(((

I built that desk out of 2x4's and plywood ... and lots of black and walnut stain/varnish. It's gotta weigh at least 200 pounds!

Well, I'll join in too.  I usually code on a laptop sitting in my car in parking lots, or in coffee shops between gigs, but when at home here's where it happens (which is seldom lately).  It's only this clean because I am reorganizing it.

Terry, nice desk.  I bet it will last a loooong time.  Is that a T series thinkpad you have?  I'm a thinkpad user too.

Fillippe, cool that you are a musician too.  That figures because your programs seem so creative.

Nice digs Dav :)  When you need to relax a bit from coding .. break out the instruments. Yep, my laptop is a Thinkpad T430s. I've only owned Thinkpads for the past 20 years. They are the best IMO.

I used to be a musician but in the last 10 years I have not done much with it. I play concert violin and dabble in guitar a bit (when I say dabble I mean drive the cats and wife nuts). Speaking of cats ... Cajon?

Still rocking Win2K ... nice! I have a 2K tower in my shop that I haven't fired up in years. Might just do that today. :)

Terry: Cool. That's what I'm using now, a T430.  Great machine.
Fillippe:  That sounds fun!

Thanks guys.

The T430 is a better model than my T430s. If I remember correctly yours has the option to use Intel or Nvidia graphics (dual graphics cards). The 's' in my model stands for 'slim', so a few sacrifices had to be made.

I love Thinkpads because you can upgrade them over a long period of time.

When new had 4GB of RAM and a 7200RPM HDD

- 2 years later upgraded to 8GB of RAM
- 2 years later upgraded to a 512GB SSD
- 2 years later purchased a new battery and a second battery that slides into the CD-ROM slot (10 hours of continuous use!)
- Very soon - remove the dual core i3720 CPU and install quad core i3730
- Very soon - upgrade to 16GB of RAM

I'll get another four years out of this laptop easy. The initial price of a Thinkpad looks prohibitive until you realize 10 years of productive use is the norm if you follow an upgrade path. Standard laptops (i.e. those sold at Wal-mart) may get you two to three years max. And even today's Wally-world laptops would still have trouble keeping up with my 7+ year old Thinkpad.

I used to have 2 T430s laptops but sold one here recently because I didn't need it any longer (left my job). Heck, I got $250 out of it even after all these years. I'll use that money to upgrade the 430s I still have.

Sounds like you have a rocking t430s. I picked up mine for about $100 at a pawn shop.  It was in mint condition.  It has intel graphics and came with Win10 (which I very quickly replaced with Win7). The only thing I've done to it so far is add a 2nd HDD in the ultrabay.  It came with a high capacity battery, in good shape.  The battery life on this model is amazing.  I've had many thinkpads over the years and I'm a fan of them, especially the business class models (T series).

$100 !! You stole that from them! Looking on eBay T430's in very good condition are selling for around $225.

The reason I got $250 out of my second T430s is because I included a 500GB ultrabay HDD, a second battery, and leather Thinkpad case. It also had a 120GB SSD as the main drive. Without those extras I probably would have gotten $175 at the most.

If I'm ever lucky enough to find a deal like yours I usually snap them up to flip on eBay or Craigslist. The closest pawn shops to me are over 30 miles away.

Yeah, I really lucked out.  Often when playing a gig somewhere I'll check out nearby pawn shops for old trumpets. Saw this laptop for only $149. They let me have it for $109 out the door.  I grinned all the way back home.

I'm charging all my extra thinkpad batteries today so I can code in QB64 in case the power goes out due to Hurricane Florence (it probably will). We're in the path of Flo but expect less than hurricane force winds by time it crosses over us (NC).

I went through a hurricane in North Carolina in 1991. I was living in Havelock (Cherry Point) at the time. The eye stayed off the coast but I'll never forget that. There were evacuation centers you could go to but I had a trailer at the time and I thought, "My trailer has hurricane straps, I'll be fine". LOL, stupid, stupid, stupid.

Post by: Pete on September 11, 2018, 12:43:14 pm
Now I feel guilty. In 1991 I sold hurricane straps on ebay. It turned out they were just old used tent tie downs, but by re-naming huricane straps, well, the margins were just too good to pass up. But hey, at least Terry's trailer came equipped with in-flight peanuts, just in case they failed.

Kidding aside, we have a few of our forum friends in the way of Flo, possibly even a bigger wind bag than your's truly. I'd recommend boarding up and getting out even if it was just me coming to visit for a day or two.

Yes, stay safe, and let's all hope that high pressure area, guiding it inland, breaks down sooner than expected.

Yeah, the trees are the scary part. A big oak tree came down next to my trailer, luckily parallel and not across. Stay safe Dav.

The hurricane straps might as well been tent straps. When I could look down the length of trailer and see the hallway snaking around I knew I had made a mistake.

eBay, 1991? You must have it mistaken with Quantum Link.

Post by: Pete on September 11, 2018, 04:33:50 pm
Oh come on Terry, 1991, 1995, close a friggin' 'nough! :D

I was on the pier (Sterns Warf) in Santa Barbara during a micro-burst. I actually knew what it was when it happened. I guessed the wind was 80 mph, and the news later confirmed I was right. They have measuring equipment very close to the pier. The scary part was I was on the end of the pier moments before it hit. The end of the pier is unprotected. No guard rails, just a 30 foot drop off into the ocean, and over a 2/3rds mile swim to shore. Anyway, as I looked out over the horizon I saw a pretty weird cloud formation for the summertime. It stood alone, about a mile away and it actually looked like a mini hurricane. I decided weird is usually nature's way of telling us... GET OUT! so I walked back to where the buildings on the warf were located, about 1000 feet back. I'm glad I did. Right when I got there, large rain drops started, followed quickly by hail and a strong gust of wind. I went into a shop when the rain turned to hail and looked out a window to see the wind picking up quickly to that 80 mph speed. Everything outside was blowing sideways. The wind took down four of the giant metal flagpoles outside, but the noise from the wind was so loud, no one heard them crash on the pier. A lot of people in the shop thought it was a tornado. They must have thought I was a meteorologist, as I told everyone it was a micro-burst, the wind was probably close to 80 mph, and it would be over in about a minute, which it was. When I walked back to my car I thought it might be OK, because I purposely don't park under trees. Not because of micro-bursts, we never had such a thing before, but because I can live without the copious gifting associated with the many feathered residents who take up residence in those trees. I noticed the many palm trees in the area were damaged, but what was pretty amazing is some large ones were snapped in half, like toothpicks. There was also almost a foot of standing water on many streets near the pier. That's a lot to happen in just a minute. Hurricanes last a lot longer.

Honestly, if authorities order a mandatory evacuation, I'd take this one seriously. I keep watching the news for changes in pressure systems, wind shear, etc. and nothing positive seems to be developing so far. There is even high pressure building on the west side, which will stall the storm. I still hope everyone in the area gets through this with little or no incident and I'd like to see this era of sensationalism pass so instead our headlines are filled with stories about fires that get prevented or put out before houses are burned, storms that dissipate with no flooding, and mudslides that only occur in Africa because they don't have plastic to make the types of slides in our non-3rd world playgrounds. Maybe if Trump can get more congressional support, we can do our part by improving the infrastructure in and around our family homes so the destructive effects of nature can be better minimized or prevented. Anyway, at least got Dimster off the hook, as obviously it's all about me, now. I'm concerned about Dav, too. I've known him for a long time. He's not just an amazing programmer, but he also has really good Karma, so I'm betting whatever he decides will be right.

According to my parents we went through hurricane Charley  in 1980 on the shore at Myrtle Beach NC in a tent. they stuck me and my older bro in two corners of the tent and my parents sat in the others to keep the tent down. from what I can find it was only a Cat 1 hurricane at its strongest. seeing how I was only like 18 months old or so at the time really don't remember it, just going off what I've been told.
SO suck it up I went through a hurricane on the BEACH in a TENT at age 18 Months!! pu**ies! :D

Thank you all for your concern. We will be ok here. We're not on the coast, but inland. However we still expect major flooding and really high winds here...for days.  Luckily for us the storm has dipped south more so the center is no longer projected to come right over us, but we will be on the north side of it, which has the worst rain and wind they say.

I expect power may go out here due to falling trees, and we probably will loose internet  because our cable service comes from across a creek that floods bad and the company runs the cable IN the water instead of over, so debris often tangles up in the lines and rips them out when it floods.  Flooding and falling trees are my biggest concern.  People on the coast will have it much worse than we will. Don't worry about us too much, we aren't expected to have it as bad as others.

I'm getting my wish that it's breaking down instead of building up. Cat 2 now when they expected it to build to 4. I hope it degrades to a 1 late tomorrow, and maybe it will be like the one Cobalt rode out. What he failed to tell us if he loaded his diaper when the storm hit. That would account for his smaller size being able to hold his corner of the tent in place. :D

Let's hope the storm surge is less than anticipated, so the flood waters can reside as fast as possible. If the flooding is minimized, the chances of toxic substances in the water supply will also be diminished. In any event, don't go out walking around in the muck until it gets tested. Here in California Oprah went out in what she thought was mud from the Monticeto mudslide. I have a friend who works for a environmental testing facility who actually conducted tests in that very area Oprah was walking through. Tests revealed Oprah was mostly walking around in a bunch of sewage. O****! Interesting, same amount of letters .

The bottles of water right above the power outlets made me a bit uneasy.

People in Brazil used to think that a bottle of water placed above your electricity meter would make it spin slower and lead to cheaper bills. I believe the myth has already been debunked since I don't see many of those anymore since I was a kid.

Zeppelin,

Many years ago I had an old notebook (10inch screen) with a gig of ram and 4 gig ssd. I also had problems with performance using XP. Thankfully, I didn't use all that often, so changing the system was not a problem. I tried XP lite with Service pack 3 and it performed better. I also tested Linux and it performed just as good as "lite". There are many versions of Linux designed for low performance machines and it's free. XP lite was downloaded from the net. These were the cheapest 'upgrades' for me anyway... Back then I did not have much of an interest in programming, so I don't know how well QB64 will run with Linux or XPLite on your machine.

I hope this helps.

ps: Two things I noticed about your photo... 1. Is that a 'real' lava-lamp? and 2. Compared to my desk 'yours' is a picture of tidiness....
pps: There is no pps... lol

Just a follow up for my friends here on our hurricane situation.  We are safe.  No damage to our home when We left, hopefully won't be when go back.  Our whole area  lost power/internet. Lots of trees down and flooding going on.  Were borrowing an internet connection at a church this morning that still has power. The damage around here isn't as bad as surrounding areas, but we do have fallen trees taking out power, blocking roads, hitting some homes and cars. I am getting tv on my laptop with a tv tuner and over the are antenna. I think the worse is over and hope power will be on soon.

The rain is just now starting to move into my area here (southwestern Virginia), but I'm not expecting to have any issues with it, personally.  If it ever floods at *MY* house, somebody had best have built a dang ark!  I sit directly on the continental divide here -- highest point all around -- and haven't ever had to worry over flooding.  My Father always said we were "branch kin" with half of America.  From here, I can pee off my front porch and it'll travel the branches, and rivers, to the east coast; pee off the back porch and it goes to the Gulf, making everyone downstream, in both directions, "branch kin" to us...

No need to worry about me up here, guys.  I'm perfectly safe, and I'm happy and relieved to hear that Dav is too!  ;D

Worried about Steve? Everyone who lives downstream of Steve should be the ones who are worried... when he types he's "relieved!"

I didn't think we'd hear from Dav so soon, with power outages. Glad he found a place to get to and is OK. It seems the rain event is even bigger in some parts than was expected, so I guess it all depends on how much the rivers overflow. It is no help the storm will hook back over the mountains of NC.  Dav, I hope your home stays dry and the trees are not an issue. I'm glad the wind was minimized, in that regard.

Nope.  I'm here: https://www.google.com/maps/@37.0506057,-80.3009689,18z/data=!3m1!1e3. Always been here as well, which you can tell as they named the road after my family...

Well, MISNAMED the road after my family.  They left an L out of the McNeill.  /CRY /LOL!!

It's about 20 miles outside Blacksburg and Virginia Tech, so most folks can relate to the area due to the shooting that took place on campus there a few years back.  Believe it or not, I had been offered a job to help teach at Norris Hall the year before the shootings took place; though I didn't accept it, thankfully!!  Had fate turned just a single step different in my life, I would've been right there when and where Cho was shooting and killing everybody.  https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virginia_Tech_shooting

A better question, my Italian friend, are you guys safe from Pete? The National Windows Service recommends boarding up your browser and heading for higher encryption.

I'm on the other end of it in California. When we see fires, we run. I almost lost a rental property this year, and within that same month I had to evacuate my family as a precaution against another fire that fortunately did not get as out of control as was initially anticipated.

At this point I think we have to put people in front of these stupid environmental concerns. As humans, our goal should not be to populate the world with other species we wouldn't miss. There are only about 6 species that are necessary to supporting life, and Democrats aren't one of them.

The Carolina's will cost record amounts of money to repair, because labor is the most expensive it has ever been in history and there are more people living in the flood zones than ever before in history. As one local official put it, Carolina authorities will have to take a hard look at rebuilding permits, but let's face it, there is not enough will in government to make these types of mass common sense changes. Too many lawsuits, stories of hardship, and lack of ready alternatives will stack the deck right back in favor of the next event. I mean could you imagine all those rivers being in-accessible because like the Los Angeles River, they are all encased in a retaining wall that would be some 20 feet or more taller than the average water level? Well, that's what it would take to choose the welfare of residents over the "beauty" of nature. Maybe someday when God grows up, his parents will get him something better than the 100-centilian piece universe kit this ***-hole planet was put together with. Oh well.

Hi Pete
so you are safe for Florence but not for other things...

Quote
A better question, my Italian friend, are you guys safe from Pete?
But do you really think that we can be safe on WWW?
I think no! But it is the same risk that we face each time we use car or chopper o airplane...

About your experiences...
i can understand your feelings just a little. For many years, from when I was child, in my country has been arised the emergency about fire, ("self-burning of whole woods" and as many times a comic person of TV used to stress that the only Sicilia has many more forestalmen than the whole Canada; think you about how many forestalmen are in the whole italy! But periodically the self-burning  makes disasters and victims!). But my shining country has another periodical problem about nature's forces: floods; it seems that it is needed just a little period of rains that there are landslides and floods in the whole country, both in rural zone both in towns. Have we so poor teached ambientalists or is each problem  as an actress of the moment that must leave the scene to the next problem staying with no resolution ? Just for example in my town there are still a good part of population that have lost his house in 1980 heartquake that are living in temporary prefabicated house.
In my country Pulcinella used to say "Ogni munno è paese" ... translated "Each world is like your village, your country" but with this sentence I go accross from your nichilist prospective https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nihilism (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nihilism) to the indifference populist prospective https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_apathy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_apathy) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Populism (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Populism).

WOW!! Slept late and just woke up this afternoon (it's now 1 PM)...  Checking the local news, I just found out they called in the National Guard for my county!!  Things here at my home haven't been that bad; we've had rain, rain, and more rain, but it's had no real impact on me, personally.  (If you check the google map link I included above, you'll see my house is built in a nice flat spot on top of the mountain, with no streams right on top of us.  My ancestors chose an EXCELLENT place to settle and build, hundreds of years ago, before there was any competition on real estate here.)

Others, however, are learning a bit about the natural difficulties of poor geographic judgement in building homes.  Take one mountain here, another there, and the spot in the middle. Is JUST BEGGING FOR TROUBLE!

 /\    <--- pretend this is a mountain.

/\ /\    <---  now, rain on top of them and tell me where the rain in the middle goes...

Runoff from both sides fills the valley VERY QUICKLY, and mudslides and flash floods are natural occurrences.  Locals know not to build in these areas, but outsiders (usually city folks from places like New York) will buy land, bulldoze a hole into the side of the hill, and then be UTTERLY SHOCKED when nature doesn't like their home placement.

For the first time EVER, the issue has finally gotten so bad, THEY CALLED IN THE NATIONAL GUARD, to basically save these people from themselves.  I honestly can't understand why ANY insurance company would cover these idiots, and I can't understand why ANYONE would rebuild in a spot that nature has already PROVED to be a bad idea, but they do.  Over and over and over again...

I swear, I just don't understand people anymore.  They just never seem to learn from their life experiences any more.

Thank you Steve for providing us with an excellent geographical example... in SCREEN 0! (The only screen mode anyone needs.) Well, at least it helped me understand it.

I'm really glad you won't be affected. I do feel for the people who are. I know if you build on the beach, it's a gamble and people routinely have to rebuild and usually calculate those losses against their desire to wake up and see whales humping off their front porch. Me, I just live 2 miles from the ocean and watch the Whale Humping Channel after everyone else has gone to bed. That reminds me, I have to substitute something other than Cheetos for my go-to late nite snack selection.

I wish we could keep someone like President Trump in office for whatever time it takes to deal with our infrastructure problems. It's the only thing the stupid Democrats are supposedly in favor of as well, but with them in charge I'm certain they would screw it up. Beyond bridge and road repair what we really need are the creation of new cities built in relatively safe places or we need at risk places suitably protected. Of course even New York could be hit by an 8.0 earthquake, it's happened before but before modern development. Obviously the cost of un-skewing a teepee is a lot less than rebuilding a skyscraper. No perfect solutions here but I agree, modern building just sets people up.

Many years ago when I built a home I selected a development much in the way Steve's family did. We did have one terrible year of rain that lead to a development just a half mile away being flooded up to two feet inside people's new homes. Our development was high and dry, because it was built up and at a higher location to boot. When your city is part of an old geographical flood plane, things like that need to be taken seriously. If they would have build up the other development a lousy two-feet, it would have been fine. As if what, dirt is too expensive?

Anyway, I hope Dav gets some good news, soon.

It's about 20 miles outside Blacksburg and Virginia Tech, so most folks can relate to the area due to the shooting that took place on campus there a few years back.

I relate to it as caving country. Though I usually don't get as far south as Blacksburg for caving, I tend to turn west at Lexington.

It's kind of hard to find a good cave surrounded by all this flat. ;) https://www.google.com/maps/@39.2833225,-76.0585497,277m/data=!3m1!1e3

Hey Terry, I picked up another T430 for only $75+tax!  Great condition too.  I originally went to the pawn shop to look for instruments and saw a T430 sitting there for only $99.  They took $80 out the door.

I am wanting to upgrade the HD on this one to a SDD like you did, and was wondering which one you choose for your T430 (I haven't had a SDD before).

There are two SSDs I trust.

For outright speed I go with these:

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-500GB-Internal-MZ-76E500B-AM/dp/B0781Z7Y3S/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1539101091&sr=1-1&keywords=samsung+ssd

If I'm not too particular about speed but still want the convenience and power savings of an SSD I go with these:

https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-240GB-Solid-State-SDSSDA-240G-G26/dp/B01F9G43WU/ref=sr_1_3_acs_ac_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1539101162&sr=1-3-acs&keywords=sandisk+ssd

I've never had a problem with either manufacturer. Samsung is considered the best in the industry and are a bit pricier because of this. If you go with Samsung make sure to run the Samsung Magician software that comes with them. It makes them fly!

I can't believe you are finding these laptops so cheap!

Thanks for the links, Terry!  I will probably go with one of those.

Yeah, I got lucky again.  Using the pawn shop website search engine, I see there are a few more T430's in their inventory around $100, but none are near me.  I'm set now on laptops anyway.

I won't bother taking a picture of the Dell laptop, which I use always for work. QB64 is loaded on that laptop too. The attached photo is my main setup, for fun stuff rather than just work.

Left bottom shelf is the Dell OptiPlex Small Form Factor, w/ Core i7. Above it is a Sangean so-called WiFi tuner. On the right side are the stereo preamp and amp. The monitor is an LG HDTV. OptiPlex to LG connection is HDMI. All the audio goes to the stereo preamp and amp. You can also see on the bottom the wireless mouse and an edge of the keyboard. Then, two vintage Dahlquist DQ10 speakers in front, Polk subwoofer on the right, two small satellite speakers for ambience effects in the back (not in photo).

I use the OptiPlex for just about everything. Watching TV (99.9% of which I stream over WiFi), listening to Internet radio (if not using the Sangean), for web browsing, for writing programs, playing CDs and DVDs, all through the sound system and the LG TV.

Anyway, that's why I have fun with coming up with a good sounding QB64 music player.

@Bert

We've replaced Walter's regular Diet Dew with a urine specimen. Let's see if he will notice!

Actually what Water won't admit to is you are right. It is a urine specimen. It's Walt's newest security measure to prevent out of control spam from entering [banned user] Site. If successful, you will need to have a clean sample, as any traces of drugs or alcohol, which could lead to aberrant posting, will be detected by the security software. I heard he completed his project, and now just needs beta testers. I volunteer Bill. Bill, all you need to do is download Walt's software, log onto [banned user] site, obtain a sample. and pour it directly onto your keyboard. If the site allows you to post, you're clean. If the monitor goes blank, well you can buy a new one after you sober up. Please share your results with Walter, as if this beta version is successful, he intends to go on to make version 2.0, which will also detect social media diseases. Thanks for trying: You're In! v1.0.

@Walt

Stop drinking that diet crap. It's full of chemicals that are not kind to the body and if it worked for weight loss, Americans wouldn't be twice as fat as when this crap was first brought to market. We want you around and healthy for a long time.

(And WTH my iPad takes such "fuzzy" pictures is beyond me.  Does the lens just need cleaning?  Is it a filter? I dunno!  I'm not usually a camera guy, so that's probably my first camera shot all year with it.  I don't use it enough to worry about sorting out what's up with that crappy resolution.)

EDIT:  Cleaning the lens cleared up a crapload of the fuzz...  Now the image is almost decent.  :)

It's the wife's.  Originally, it came with flowers, chocolates, and a card, as a Valentine's Day gift to her.  The flowers wilted, the chocolates were ate, and the card was misplaced, but she's held onto the plush toy as a memento for the last 25 years, or so, now.  ;)

I find useful your way to post settings, so I have learned that I can create/add new sets of colors to the QB64IDE. First I thought that the number of color settings was limited so I should have to change someone of those preinstalled in the QB64IDE.

I think I would be nervous opening multiple instances of the same program and doing development work. Would all the edits be saved correctly?

With tabbed files held statically like in Notepad++ , I still loose track of edit work!  ;( 'course that could just be me. ;)

Basically, nothing else is left if you are tuning several sources in BI and BM files. There is then a very useful possibility of direct opening from the IDE. Of course, it is better to develop something as a separate and self-running program, but it sometimes happens that something needs to be fine-tuned. I use it, in last time much.

I do occasionally find it useful to have the same file opened in two halves of the screen (using an editor that supports that kind of thing), though bookmarks are also very handy.

If you're using the ide there's also F2 which proves to be useful.

I'm the kind of person who shuts off the computer when not using it, closes all browser tabs, closes everything, and cleans the desk. I also don't pollute my vision with toolbars, favorites, trinkets, widgets, or any of that jazz. My desktop stays pretty much empty. I disobey Windows at every step of the way. My Documents, empty. Downloads, empty. Pictures, empty. All important data is/are saved to a separate partition than the one Windows is on, and then uploaded to my server. This makes every computer I sit at - public or private - a viable workstation for me, and I never have moments like "oh that thing I need is saved elsewhere". Was using a homemade cloud before it was cool.

That said, I never have the same file open twice, let alone open twice for edits. You *trust* your computer enough to handle that? I tend to leave complexity management where it belongs in my life - in my head!

Hi,

Staying back to the topic..., a year and a half ago or so, that was my "little" lab to develop and test my scripts on various Linux distributions using a bunch of old machines.

http://www.as2.com/pictures/mon-labo-2.jpg (http://www.as2.com/pictures/mon-labo-2.jpg)

But I've recently switched for a more convenient single Apple iMac 27 (RAM 32 Gb, SSD 2 Tb, OS/X 10.9.5 plus a second Apple 27" Thunderbolt screen and two external disk dock stations) on witch I run all my Linux distros as well as different Windows releases (XP, 7 and 10) in VMs mainly using VMware Fusion (but I do test also both VirtualBox and Parallels that are not so good).

Bellow, I'm currently running 5 different Linux Distros (CentOS 7, Debian 9, Mint 19, Q4OS 2.4 and Ubuntu 18.04.1) plus a Windows 10 session and also QB64 natively on OS/X.

This is how I enjoy now the QB64 magic with InForm and vWATCH and a good beer.

Cheers.

Hi,

it's a funny thing (which makes me think)... we are all "equal"...

I see the same PC, the same disassembled PC, pieces of hardware scattered on the tables, many monitors, harddisks here and there, inlaid desks where there is no more space to rest a pin, confusion... dust!

And I imagine the wives, the mothers, the daughters... that obviously do not understand and maybe they think: "What problems does he have? But a laptop, a smartphone, an iPhone, a tablet... how they all are not enough?"

;)

Hi Pete,

So by the looks of the third photo, you're trying to make us guess if you're a glass half full or a glass half empty kind of guy.

Nice setup!

Pete :D

Whether you choose the glass half empty or half full doesn't matter because I've already drunk one half and will finish the other half. ;)

That looks rather like the set up for my reloading bench. Most of the time it's full of gun and bullet stuff, but for a while it housed an old PC that had AutoCAD 14 on it. That rig kinda crapped out. Now I just run Draftsight 2D on my laptop and the bench went back to bullet stuff.

Hey Fifi, judging from the time on that wall clock, and that it seems to be dark outside, it looks like you too are a "night owl." Good to see.

Don't know where you live, but I imagine that during the day, outside that door, you have a balcony and a view of Mont Martre. Very inspiring!

Hey Bert22306,

Yes I do like working very late at night when both "my blond" and my cats are sleeping ;)

I do live in a magnific and quite part of the south of France called "La Drôme Provençale" (you can look on google maps 44.579662,5.105817 that points my house). So, I don't have a balcony with a view of Mont Martre (where as a matter of fact I was born), but I enjoy an exceptionnal view from my old farm surrounded by mountains where I do paragliding.

Cheers.

My name is René. I live in Provence in France.
Here is my QB64 environment

I apologize for the mistakes I'm going to make. I'm using the Google Translator
I am 65 years old, I am retired and I program in QB64 since a few years.
In fact I program very badly, I sometimes use line numbers as a label, I program few functions or subprograms, I still have difficulties to properly declare the variables.
I use only a small part of the QB64 features and I am admiring when I see the quality of the programs made by the regulars of this forum.
Thank you for everything I learned about this forum and all that I will learn again.
I also thank you for all the tools you shared here.
In my programs I use Terry Ritchie's menus, Ashish Kushwaha's Akframework Forms, Dave's "Guiboxes" DLL.

Mow your friggin lawn!!!!

I'm sorry, I'm from California. Mowing lawns out here is almost as popular as mowing them in Texas, where lawns are prayed to twice daily.

I love the rolling hills. Very nice!
