I just read in the paper today, they are closing the place where I started bowling back in HS.

So in memory of those times is this bowling game. I included the last revised SmallBASIC file to show what it was translated from, you might be curious about another Basic.

Many thanks to Johnno for the years of our cooperative efforts.

Our bowling alley has been out of business for some years. This is a nice substitute.

I thought it looked familiar... Bowl on! lol

The "LINE (0,0)-(xmax, ytopsheet)" on line#90 is a little over zealous and 'crops' the top of the scoresheet. I changed mine to 'ytopsheet - 5' to fix. Other than that, a great conversion effort!!

Yeah no heavy lifting, no squinting to aim, no sore thumbs, but dang, no HS babes.

You win some and you lose some... :)

Yes, feeling both nostalgic and thankful today.

On my system line 67 fixed that very problem!

But good to know everything is loading and playing OK (almost) on Linux.

:P  lol

I would be curious to know how to apply spin... I have seen old dos games that, not only line up the player, but select up to 3 different degrees of hook... (both directions. Left or right)  Any ideas on the physics?

Shuffleboard? Nostalgia enough for ya?  lol

You know, QB64 has a _PUTIMAGE command that could address that deficiency. ;)

You know I was thinking about that last night, right around the same time at SB as I recall.

I was thinking about that last night too, that is a great idea. Terry Ritchie left us a Physics Engine with a ton of properties for an object (ball?) that looked good for pool, maybe could practice with bowling first. I've had it on the back burner since he was here a year plus ago.

@OldMoses Oh man! if we had a _PUTIMAGINATION command! ;-))

I just played this for the first time and DANG I am IMPRESSED! The physics are perfect. I just scored a 174 on my first game. This rocks!

Glad you like it! Wait until you find the sweet spots, the first and main one I found was a line for a Brooklyn strike.

BROOKLYN. Refers to a ball that crosses over to the other side of the head pin opposite the side it was thrown (i.e. a Brooklyn strike hit the 1-2 pocket for a right-hander).

Nice bowling game.  I agree with SierraKen.  Great physics there.

My first game score is 164.  Wish I could bowl that good in real life.  Last time I went bowling I was the worst of the whole group.  And my wrist hurt so much I couldn't play piano well for a couple days.

Dave,

What a coincidence...  I bowled league for many years, my highest ever was 212, wrist and finger injuries and I 'still' can't play piano....
The two conclusions that I had made was: 1. Bowling can effect piano playing and 2. Learn how to play piano....
I haven't bowled for over 30 years and I never did learn how to play piano... *sigh*
