Title: Quick query: How did you get InForm?
Post by: FellippeHeitor on August 26, 2018, 12:00:41 am
With Beta 7 I introduced an installer to automate InForm's setup process and released it for all platforms at http://www.qb64.org/inform/download/

I also released zip packages with the precompiled binary for Windows and with setup scripts for Linux/macOS.

The repository on GitHub has a link to download the current release as well.

All that said, if you are currently using InForm (or did download it earlier to test/check and have already deleted it, no hard feelings), what was your preferred method for obtaining it?

One complementary question: Does your copy of InForm currently have automatic updates enabled in the Options menu? It comes set by default but may become disabled automatically if it ever finds an issue checking for the latest version at startup.

Hi Fellippe,

I probably got InForm, from link you posted when you announced Beta 7 was out. It did have automatic updates.
The box for check for automatic updates is checked. I have at least 4 versions of QB64.exe and so I could have gotten InForm from ORG Home Page also (or copied files from one QB64.exe folder to another?).

Thanks bplus!

My main goal here is to figure out whether the installer is preferred over the zip.

I set up a counter on informs hotsite so I know roughly how many copies of it were downloaded for each platform, but I forgot to differentiate between setup methods.

I got InForum from this forum announcement of it and used the links here.  I got the zip file version, and usually prefer zip file packages over exes when given the choice.  I think auto updates was turned on by default for me.

Hi Fellippe

The last time I get InForm from the link of the main page of this forum.
I got the installer that worked properly and voilĂ  the RAD WYSIWYG has been installed on my notebook.
Thanks for InForm and its hardworked maintenance and its developing.

Autoupdate is On
A link of InForm is near the link of QB64 on my desktop.

I used the link on QB64.org to download a few weeks back. I would prefer to either download from the main page at QB64.org or the link you provide in the forum. However, with auto updates I won't have to worry about this any longer.

"Checks for updates online at startup" is still checked.

Edit: I used the installer which I found very nice to use. Installer or ZIP would be fine for me though.

Fillippe,

I tried twice to use the auto installer but it failed both times. Our adsl connection is a bit flaky at times, so it may be that. The zipped file downloaded without issue.

nb: Our country is installing a National Broadband Network and will be phasing out the copper wire network. This has caused problems with the current connections in the past and will probably do so until completed. The area in our suburb is being installed and hopefully improve connections before Xmas...
